painting in Bonaire
I have held a life-long interest in art and have a studio art minor from Kalamazoo College in Michigan. Over the years I have explored many areas of visual expression, including drawing, photography, serigraphy, and painting. I first discovered watercolors in 1994, and for many years painted exclusively in this medium. For several years now I have returned to the fascinating medium of acrylics. I have taken workshops from artists Betty Lou Schlemm, Charles Sharpe, Judi Betts, Tom Jones, and Jane Filer. My paintings are usually representational, and my subject is often the landscape. I am especially interested in landscapes that evoke a sense of our past. I am also intrigued by the quiet movement of paths or roads, and how they give us passage into a given scene. Other subjects that appeal to me are still lifes, interior scenes, and animals. My goal is to paint a given scene, and to explore how I can capture that elusive combination of light, shadows, and space.
